Early Police Woman's Jacket...

Design - Here we have a fantastic piece of utilitarian fashion from 1930s New York. This jacket belonged to female officer A. Connell. The jacket comes in the traditional deep navy blue in a classic and sturdy gabardine and is adorned by brass "P" (police) buttons up the front on the each of the four flap pockets on the front and decoratively on the shoulder straps. There is stitching above the left breast pocket where a badge or identification would have gone. The jacket also has shoulder pads, is lined in a black satin and has a vented back. The jacket most likely was worn with a standard issue belt as there is a metal belt holder on the back side. It is inside of the hidden pocket that the "Special Order" garment label is found right below the name and badge number of the officer. A beautiful piece of American History.

Material - Navy blue gabardine wool, brass buttons.

Maker - on the back of the brass "P" buttons with their laurel wreath is Superior Quality with a star in between. This make of the classic button is found during the late 1920s to the mid 1930s. Also the name patch in the pocket says "A. Connell #74452"
