Fabulous 1920s style kaftan or coat, black cotton monks cloth with appliques

Fortunyesque Mystery Kaftan...

Design - Here we have an absolutely stunning 1920s style Kaftan or coat with wide dolman sleeves that become structure at the end and unique appliques on the shoulders, back arm bands and cuffs all trimmed in persimmon orange embroidery. Its construction is possibly a later period, but is very well made. Its styling is very 1920's Fortuny, most notably the sleeves. Many 1920s coats featured appliques, but this piece is also very reminiscent of costume pieces from wild beauties of Ballet Russo. Finally the material used in the appliques is very very similar to rayons or silks used in menswear from North Africa. It is a rare thing for us to say we are unclear on a piece as extensive reseach is done on all of our unique pieces, but this one remains its very own beast. Never-the-less, it is just so full of high-drama and 1920s high fashion style.

Maker - There is no makers mark but this piece was exceptionally well designed and created.

Length - 51"

Condition - This piece is in excellent condition with no holes, damage or discoloration to the silk. It comes to you in clean ready-to-wear condition.
